Winter Sports Highlights
Whitby vs. Hackley
In a thrilling overtime game February 19th played in the Whitby Den, the Wildcats of Whitby School unleashed their growl on the Hackley School winning 58-54 in a game described by Athletic Director Kurt Putnam "one the best games seen here in a long time".
Whitby vs. St. Lukes
On Wednesday, Feb. 18th, the Whitby 6-7th grade Wildcats tangled with St. Lukes at the Wildcat Den. The exciting game was decided in the last seconds as Whitby missed two desperation three-pointers that would have tied the game. The Wildcats fell to their worthy opponents 31-28 as the final whistle blew. The two teams played a competitive game as the lead changed hands numerous times along the way. After a late timeout, with Whitby down by three points they executed a play that allowed Peter Heerdt to attempt a contested three-pointer to tie the game. After the rebound bounced around it eventually found its way back to Peter for one final attempt at the hoop. The desperation shot came up short as the final whistle blew.
Both teams were applauded for their efforts on the court and the kids left happy to be part of such an exciting game. Peter Heerdt led the way for Whitby by scoring 12 points. Strong contributions were also made by Sam Jellife (6 points), Iann Arrango (4 points), Darien Pierce (4 points), Chris Kondracki (2 points), Jacopo Baldi, Chad Silver, Emma Heerdt, Nicolas Hasty, Jose Maita and Elettra Baldi.
