“We know that parents are the center of their child's world so that's why we encourage our parents to take an active part in their child's learning journey both inside and outside the classroom.”

Have you ever seen the face of a child light up when his or her parent walks into their classroom? It's a magical moment. Children get so excited to share what they have learned with their parents. We know that parents are the center of their child's world so that's why we encourage our parents to take an active part in their child's learning journey both inside and outside the classroom.

The Most Important and Influential People

Parents remain the most important and influential people in their children's lives, and we encourage them to be an active part of their child’s learning journey, both inside and outside the classroom.

When a new student is welcomed to the school, we welcome the whole family as well. There are many ways we engage with families to make sure everyone feels right at home with our community.

Events and Parenting Workshops

Whitby events and workshops at Whitby are a wonderful way to further engage with your child’s education while simultaneously getting acquainted with other members of the community. Social events help parents to become acquainted with one another and to begin what often become life-long friendships.

Parents are welcomed to campus for a number of community building events throughout the year including Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Grandparents Day and Mayfair. A number of student-centered events and activities are open to parents throughout the year, including art and theater shows, and musical performances to name a few.

Parent Workshops are another vehicle for parents to engage in their child’s learning journey. These bi-monthly workshops are hosted by Whitby’s own faculty and cover a wide range of popular parenting topics. Previous workshops have covered topics such as raising a confident child, how to engage your child in reading, how to develop a love of math at a young age, and online safety.

Volunteerism at Whitby

Whitby’s Parents Association invites all parents to join in its endeavors to make our children's experience at Whitby as rewarding and enriching as possible. Through volunteerism, parents can become more effective partners in their child's education, plan and implement community-building activities and create a supportive network for themselves.

Here are a few ways our parents choose to get involved:

  • Plan community events
  • Plan or help chaperone field trips
  • Coordinate workshops or guest speakers
  • Assist with library activities and initiatives
  • Support learning in the classroom

Our diverse community has been a source of inspiration for many parents. Some have chosen to act as host families to new families, and others find ways to share their own cultural experiences with students in their classrooms. Parent participation in any form is invaluable in helping further enrich our students' educational experience.

Experience the Whitby difference first hand.
