Maximillian "Max" Lu, of Greenwich, is an 8-year-old second-grader at Whitby School, and he's pretty much a typical kid. He plays basketball, tennis, soccer and baseball, and he skis and fences. But a couple of years ago, he signed on for a new activity -- chess -- and it has become his passion. And he's good. Like world-class good.
