Thirteen Greenwich middle-schoolers have solved the equation for a shot at a state math title.

A school-record six students from Whitby School and seven other students from Greenwich public and independent schools have qualified for the state championships in the middle-school MATHCOUNTS competition after top performances Saturday at a chapter tournament at Fairfield University. Students faced questions in algebra, geometry, number theory and probability.
