Whitby School hosted Acclaimed author Nedda Lewers, the author of the book "Daughters of the Lamp," for our students.
Ms. Lewers met with students in Grades 3–5 to share the inspiration behind her fantasy fiction novel Daughters of the Lamp, a synopsis of her book, and her writing process.
Following her presentation, Ms. Lewers led a hands-on writing workshop with Grade 3 students, guiding them through the process of crafting strong story leads, building rich characters and settings, incorporating cultural elements, and writing authentic dialogue. This experience supported their current fiction writing unit in Language Arts and their “Expressions Across the Nation” inquiry into culture across the United States.
Every single student in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grader received a personally autographed copy of "Daughters of the Lamp" to take home, in partnership with local Greenwich bookstore, Diane's Books.
