A few weeks ago, I wrote about the importance of Design in the International Baccalaureate curriculum as students enter the Middle Years Program (MYP). Now, in a four-part series, we'll dive a little deeper and see actual design students putting the four stages of the cycle into action while completing a unit known as the Landmark Marble Roll. This week we take a look at the first step of the Design Cycle: Inquiring and Analyzing.
In this first video, listen to students explain how they apply the Inquiring and Analyzing phase of the MYP Design Cycle to building miniature versions of landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, Yankee Stadium and the Great Wall of China. In this stage, students Develop a Design Brief, Analyze Existing Products, Identify and Prioritize Research, and Explain and Justify the Need.
