We are looking for the best and the brightest.
At Whitby School, we take pride in our 67-year history of educating individual students by inspiring a passion for learning and empowering each child to take responsibility as an open-minded, principled citizen in a global community. The Whitby Trustees Merit Scholarship is designed to attract, select, and support outstanding Middle School students.
The Whitby Trustees Merit Scholarship is awarded to a new student applicant entering Grade 5 or Grade 6 in the fall of 2026. The student must distinguish themselves as an accomplished student and exceptional leader, plus demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities. Partial scholarships will be awarded to two additional candidates who display exemplary academic and extracurricular achievements.
All new Grade 5 and Grade 6 applicants to Whitby can be considered for the Whitby Trustees Merit Scholarship and are asked to visit the campus during one of the scheduled visiting days. Scholarship candidate interviews will be conducted on this day. The Scholarship Selection Committee will review the following criteria when assessing each candidate:
- Record of academic success, as measured by the candidate’s transcript and recommendations.
- Academic potential, as measured by results from Whitby faculty-administered assessments.
- Perceived character as a principled citizen with unique talents or the potential to contribute to Whitby community life, as measured by the Scholarship Selection Committee interview.
One Grade 5 or Grade 6 applicant will be chosen by the Scholarship Selection Committee as the Whitby Trustees Merit Scholar, making the selection process competitive. The recipient will receive a full scholarship to attend Whitby’s Middle School through Grade 8. Partial scholarships will be offered to two additional Whitby Scholars.
To be considered for the Whitby Trustees Merit Scholarship, candidates must submit all necessary application materials by the deadlines outlined below. Whitby will notify Scholarship recipients at the same time they receive the notice of admission.
Whitby has given me opportunities to grow as a life-long learner that would not have been available to me in my previous school. I have learned how to advocate for myself, ask questions, and discover answers on my own. -- Scholarship Recipient - Class of 2023
