The Stepping Stones program offers an orientation for new students entering Whitby in the fall, as well as encouraging continual growth and learning for returning children. The summer is an ideal time for children to experience the Montessori environment. Children will have fun playing outdoors, enjoying water play, music, movement, and participating in art and language activities. The Stepping Stones program offers your child the opportunity to play and work in a prepared Montessori environment. Children may bring lunch and enjoy eating with their friends from 11:45-12:30. Children who don’t stay for lunch may be picked up at 11:45.
Stepping Stones Camp Requirements
A consecutive two-week commitment is highly recommended. Children must be at least 18 months old by June 1, 2023. Open only to Whitby families
The Transition to Primary program is specifically designed to introduce three-year-old children to the Primary Program's structure and routine in a relaxed and smaller class size atmosphere. Transition to Primary captures the essence of summer fun and learning through nature, literature, science, water play, creative movement/dance, music, song, arts, and crafts. Children are given the freedom to choose from a wide range of individual and group activities while developing friendships and learning to become responsible community members. Children may bring lunch and enjoy eating with their friends from 11:45-12:30. Children who don’t stay for lunch may be picked up at 11:45.
Transition to Primary Camp Requirements
Two consecutive weeks is highly recommended to optimize a child's experience. Open only to Whitby families.
This program for young children appeals to their many senses. Within the Montessori classroom setting and with trained Montessori teachers, each day the children will enjoy a great story and then a correlated experience through art, cooking, nature, arts and crafts, and science. Music and movement, playground, and water play are also part of the curriculum. This is a wonderful way to introduce children to the camp experience without committing to a full day and/or an entire summer. Children may bring lunch and enjoy eating with their friends from 11:45-12:30. Children who won’t stay for lunch may be picked up at 11:45.
The Program is open to Whitby and non-Whitby families.
Let Whitby take your child on a magical trip around the world. Each week the group will "visit" two countries for a total immersion experience. Activities include a combination of cooking, historic and pop culture, dance, music, art, literature, and outdoor activities/sports. During the four weeks, your child will "visit" eight countries and leave camp with an expanded global perspective while having a fun and exciting learning experience. Some stops along the way include Sweden, Peru, Germany, and Ghana.
Two separate classrooms ensure that your child will experience a new adventure and not "travel" to the same places as last year. Most weeks will include a trip to Europe as well as a visit to one other continent. Children may bring lunch and enjoy eating with their friends from 11:45-12:30. Children who don’t stay for lunch may be picked up at 11:45.
This program is best suited for children that will be in Primary 3 or in Grades 1-2 in Fall 2023.
The Up, Up, and Away Program is open to non-Whitby families. Whitby students can invite a friend to join them on their adventures. Please contact Andy Dabney (adabney@whitbyschool.org) if you wish to register a non-Whitby student.
