Whitby School Announces Partnership with the Gardner Carney Leadership Institute

Exclusive Leadership Academy Launches for Middle School Students

Whitby School today announced a partnership with the Gardner Carney Leadership Institute (gcLi). The Institute’s innovative Leadership Academy empowers students to become leaders who bring about positive change. The Academy facilitates a leadership program for Middle School and Upper School students that has the collaboration between educators and students at its core. The Leadership Academy for Whitby sixth-grade Middle School students launches this month and is the first school in Connecticut offering the gcLi program.whitby_gcLi logo copy-1

“Partnering with school leadership that offers students an opportunity to experientially cultivate their leadership skills is paramount to the success of The Academy program. We could not be happier working with a school of Whitby’s caliber,” says Jeremy LaCasse, Executive Director of Gardner Carney Leadership Institute. “Our mission to empower students to become leaders who effect positive changes aligns perfectly with Whitby’s mission to inspire a student’s passion for learning and empower them to take responsibility as open-minded, principled citizens in a global community.”

The Academy program is led by Heidi Kasevich, PH.D., Director of the gcLi Leadership Academy and founder of the Kase Leadership Method, a mission-driven organization guiding school communities to foster inclusive cultures. Students will learn to:

  • Advocate for themselves
  • Unleash the potential of team members
  • Solve adaptive challenges
  • Foster communities of belonging
  • Speak in public with confidence
  • Give and receive feedback

Bringing the Leadership Academy to Whitby is another example of Whitby’s commitment to innovation in education and providing students the opportunity to gain confidence and experience as leaders. “The program prepares our sixth-graders to be future Whitby Middle School leaders. We look forward to the positive energy and significant impact they will bring to our student community and beyond as they continue their educational journey,” says Simone Becker, Whitby Assistant Head of School.
