Storytelling through Animation

Pre-K and Kindergarten students began a new art unit this week: Storytelling through Animation! This unit is taught by Art Teacher Lorraine Artale and Art & Technology Integration Specialist Phil Lohmeyer. The class creates animations by using iPads, whiteboards, dry-erase markers, and small pom-poms.

First, students brainstorm characters and settings for their story. Then, they are asked to invent a beginning, middle, and end for an animation that follows the adventures of a small pom-pom. The students will create makeshift studios using upside-down chairs and yardsticks, and will take turns as Directors, Storyboarders, Cartoonists, and Animators. As a class, they will bring this original story to life over the course of six weeks.
