Supporting Whitby School

As we celebrate the first 50 years of Whitby, it is imperative that we continue to invest in the school and continue its wonderful legacy for future generations of Whitby students and their families, as previous generations of Whitby families have done for us.

There are several opportunities contribute to Whitby throughout the year.  Donations may be pledged or completed (with a credit card) online.

There are four main contribution opportunities at Whitby:
The Annual Fund
The Capital Campaign
The Annual Benefit
The Whitby Angels

The Annual Fund is a yearly fundraising request which supports Whitby's annual operating budget.  Our goal is 100% participation.  Similar to other private schools, the Annual Fund contributions bridge the gap between the cost of tuition and the actual cost of educating each child.  The gap for the 2008-2009 school year is $4,400 per student.  The Development Office and parent volunteers work together to solicit the participation of each family.   Each year, the Annual Fund seeks contributions to help us:

    * Attract and maintain outstanding faculty
    * Provide professional development and training for our faculty
    * Implement innovative educational programs (math, college board, S.A.I.L., etc.)
    * Supply equipment and materials for the music and arts programs.
    * Offer need-based financial aid to qualified students
    * Purchase books and supplies for the classrooms and library
    * Upgrade technology
    * Furnish classrooms with materials that engage students in active learning
    * Fund special programs for the arts, athletics and extra-curricular activities

We track participation by class throughout the year, so please donate or pledge early in the year. Contributions to the Annual Fund enhance our children's classroom experience on a daily basis and have an immediate effect in the year they are made.

The Capital Campaign raises funds for new and improved Whitby facilities.  There are naming opportunities available for families wanting to make significant contributions to the school.  The current campaign has been raising funds for the construction of the Children's House (which is now complete), and will be raising funds for the construction of new classrooms, a science lab and a new gymnasium.  Past campaigns raised the funds for the construction of Renaissance Hall.

The Annual Benefit, a major social event, is held each spring and is the largest fundraiser of the year.  It is organized by the Parents Association, and is attended by most families and almost all faculty and staff.  Funds raised by this event support the operating budget.

The Whitby Angels Fund has been set up for families who want to make an additional significant donation in any school year.  Donations to this fund provide Whitby with additional flexibility so that it can continue to enhance the curriculum and campus as needed.  Whitby Angel donations are separate from Annual Fund and Capital Campaign giving, and require a minimum donation of $30,000.  If you are interested in becoming a Whitby Angel, please contact the Development Office.

Please join the Whitby community in giving as your means permit.  Whitby is very grateful for your support.  If you or your spouse is associated with a company that matches charitable donations, please ensure you take advantage of the generosity of your company.  The Development Office is available to assist with these requests.
