Athletics
More than just trophies or medals, participating in school athletics is about holistic growth. Starting in the fifth grade at Whitby School and as a full member of the Middle School Fairchester Athletic Association, structured competition promotes physical health, teaches commitment, and builds strong teamwork. Whether you're on the basketball court or the field, the program ensures every student who signs up gets to play. Athletes learn to manage their time effectively, gain resilience through victory and defeat, and develop essential transferable skills like problem solving, leadership, collaboration, and perseverance. Athletics fosters a powerful sense of community, shaping confident, capable individuals prepared to grow, strive, and lead in every aspect of life. At Whitby we support our students' development to lead during practices and games because those that specialize or compete at much higher levels outside of school can help those students that don’t have as much experience or knowledge. Our athletics department is led by Kurt Putnam, who brings 35 years of coaching experience, and supported by our incredibly talented faculty.
